Can Health Care Reform Wait? by Christine Kline Posted -3054 Hours ago
I agree that Health reform does need to happen. But that is where my agreement stops. I do not agree that this so called "reform" as presented by Obama needs to be rushed through as an emergency. It does not need to be shoved down our throats in the midst of a financial crisis. It does not need to cost $1.3 TRILLION and it does not need to be Socialized. As we all can understand, the word Republican has become a dirty word. I agree since Republicans have moved considerably to the leftist idiology and have abandoned the conservative values they ran on. I do not feel however that the Democrates have the right to boycott ever single option the republicans have put forth - 5 in all. I do not feel that our politicians should be resorting to closed caucuses to push through their bills and literally shutting the door in another party's face and disallowing them from coming to the table in debate as well as helping to come to a positive solution. If for no other reason than the pace that this is being pushed through - Americans should question the benefits of this action they are putting on us. Keep in mind - they will not be subject to the health care they are promoting for us. My biggest concern is the politics being played with in this whole matter. I am very ashamed of the playground bully tactics being used by our so called professional reps which we have elected. I don't care if you are Democrate, Republican, Libertarian, etc. It really doesn't matter. I think all of us should be smelling a rat. I don't know about you, but I am sick of Obama's face on my tv screen and I am especially sick of his consistant message of, "EMERGENCY, CRISIS, WE HAVE TO DO THIS NOW OR SOCIETY WILL FALL OF THE FACE OF THE EARTH"! However, this approach by him as worked in his favor. Also the strategy to overwhelm the system is benefiting him greatly since he is pushing so many important things at once - it is almost a full time job to keep up with it all. He was able to pass the stimulas bill without so much as 1 person reading it. We all found out now that it was in fact a spending bill that did nothing to focus on employment issues as he sold it to do. He is shoving cap&trade through as a crisis of our environment. The truth is that this will do NOTHING to help the environment and will do EVERYTHING to bankrupt small business , and grow gov't. I say YES, Health care reform can wait. In part because what Obama is proposing is not reform at all, but rather is health care reconstruction. He is not fixing the problem, he is creating a new system of rationed care. You must be willing to look your elder parents and loved ones in the eyes and tell them you support this reform even though it literally means their health care will be rationed away as someone in Washington decides if giving them the pacemaker, knee replacement, stint, heart surgery, or what have you is economically prudent for the gov't to do. Or rather perhaps the refusal of these procedures would be a better way to reduce health care costs. As a daughter who lost my mother in May of 2008, I know I could not look my mother in the eye while supporting a bill like this. She was in every way an example of what would have been rationed regarding the care she recieved. She had a multitude of health problems, complicated by her diabetes. A youth spent smoking resulted in COPD. She ended up with congestive heart failure and eventually her liver failed and she passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had recieved 2 stints, a pace maker and a variad of other things that extended her life and made it as comfortable for her as possible. I would never had been able to enjoy the addition of at minimum 5 years that I had with her had Obama's "reform" been in place. She would have been disqualified because of her prognosis and her weight. My daughter and son would not have any memories of the most loving and doting grandmother on the face of this earth. Please inform yourself as to what this and the varid of other bills Obama is proposing. Put forth the effort to research the truth whether they be positive or negative. We must make sure that we are not slicing away the things that make America great one bill and ammendment at a time. |
